People jokingly say that they’ve lived a million lives. Sometimes, they have. Other times, they simply have a collection of funny, telling stories. There’s nothing wrong with these stories, but they miss the shadows and weight; the turmoil and tears that comes with arriving at a destination ahead of your time. The loss, and the waiting, and weight of living a life colored by lived experiences beyond the quirky, humorous ones (although we have those, too).

In the beginning, my friends used to laugh at me. The old, sultry music and hobbies made then exclaim, “You’re just an old soul!”

Now they smile – tentative and tender – as they remember the road to now, and say: “You’ve experienced enough to fill several lifetimes.”

The problem with these experiences is that there is a weight to them. The meaningful kind, like looking down at a drawer full of old photographs you found. You want to show them to someone. You need them to see how you used to look, or feel, so they can feel it too, and relate to it. You want them to see the person living in stills. You want them to see you. To learn from you — from your softness, and silliness, and everything in between.

Enter “Soul Reads.”

This is a sacred, healing space. One that examines all the lessons I’ve experienced in ways that land softly, but not silently. The stories, pictures, and insights that fill this website are designed to teach – not through repetition, harshness, and or judgement — by steady guidance.

Let the content that lives here be the soft, steady hand at your shoulder. Guiding, but not pressing. Not forcing. Allow the wisdom to come to you as gently as I wish it came to me.

“Soul Reads” is a project that shows you the gateway to my soul through photography, blogs, upcoming novels, and my personal reads.
